Instead of rehashing last night's Oscar fashions for you, I thought I would share one of my favorite gowns from the past. Grace Kelly wore this gorgeous silk satin gown to the 27th Academy Awards in 1955. The photo was taken for the cover of Life Magazine by Phillipe Halsman.
The gown was designed by Edith Head (here with her back to the camera) and was worn with a matching evening coat.
I love the coat worn over the dress. It makes it that much more regal and special, don't you think?
Here you can see the gown in motion as Grace accepts her award. Enjoy!

Grace Kelly won the Best Actress Oscar that night for her role in The Country Girl.
It is said that the yards and yards of silk used for the gown cost over $4,000.

My only comment about awards show garb is that I wish everyone used it as an opportunity to look fabulously classy rather than an opportunity to look shockingly trashy. :)
This gown is perfection. No one else has ever been so gorgeous at the Oscars.
Stunning! I love Edith Head (also loved the reference to her by the character, "Edith Mode" from the Incredibles...truly Edith Head would have been the only designer for superheros)!
I can't imagine how it must feel to have so many opinions on what you wear - some celebrities must just struggle to get out the door. The Grace Kelly sea green dress is one of my favourites - thanks for the pics.
I agree 100%...we should just enjoy their efforts and say they look fabulous! That being said, though, I do appreciate the current actresses who manage to look classy and elegant every time. Kate Winslet, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie come to mind. I think Natalie Portman always looks beautiful, too.
